Community Volunteers are a group of trained and supported volunteers who are managed by your local Volunteer Centre and can support your organisations next big event
Why engage the Community Volunteers?
Organisations can request their local Community Volunteers to support at events or initiatives. Organisations can also request support from Community Volunteers at shorter notice when urgent needs arise in the Community.
Community Volunteers are trained to understand the importance of communication, compassion, confidentiality, managing risks and minding their own wellbeing when volunteering.
They are managed by your local volunteer centre and are available to take on short term and episodic volunteer roles.

Why dlr Community Volunteers matters?
During Covid-19 we saw the need to mobilise volunteers quickly – the Community Volunteers programme was our answer. It allows us, to create a diverse group of trained volunteers who are on standby. Who can respond quickly and effectively to provide urgent community support in times of local and national need. These volunteers also help build social capital by supporting local community events in their area. The Community Volunteers programme is a practical, hands on way to volunteer and make a difference.
What will community volunteers do?
Volunteer at once off events
This could include supporting local events, such as community festivals, parades, concerts, sporting events, environmental events or clean ups etc.
Support urgent community needs
This could be in response to a national crisis such as COVID-19, a local disruption such as a weather event or water shortage, or simply a local need that could be met by volunteers acting quickly. Most recently, our Community Volunteers have facilitated donation hubs for Ukrainians and Asylum seekers arriving to the County.
What service will my volunteer centre provide?
We will discuss your needs with you. We will then agree a plan for volunteer engagement. Following this, we will advertise, recruit and manage the team of Community Volunteers you need.
Our work to recruit, interview, skill & interest assess, ID check and train volunteers, will allow you to involve suitable volunteers without the initial onboarding work.
