Project Description
There are so many actions we can take to support and protect our biodiversity. A good place to start is in our own space. Check out the wonderful Gardening for Biodiversity booklet and resources and stories we shared as part of our biodiversity project last year. Lots of ideas here!
Other actions to consider are planting trees by volunteering with groups such as Native Woodland Trust. Could your community or organisation plant a Pocket Forest?
The All Ireland Pollinator Plan website has lots of ideas on how to support our pollinators.
Maybe you are interested in butterflies, bees or marine life? Could you consider getting involved as a biodiversity recorder? In order to conserve biodiversity in the wider countryside, we need to know how it is changing. The National Biodiversity Data Centre operates a number of citizen science driven monitoring programmes that generate high quality, scientifically robust insights to track change in Ireland’s biodiversity. Check out the Centre’s website here.
Birdwatch Ireland also involve volunteers. You might like to take part in the annual Garden Bird Survey. Check out their website here.
Consider a beach clean with Clean Coasts or Flossie and the Beachcleaners to help keep our marine habitats clear from waste.
