Project Description

Hello and happy gardening folks! I am writing to you from the polytunnel, where it is warm and cosy, early in the morning, and where I have a look at the little seedlings coming up or not coming up, and ponder them alongside sips of coffee.

I am no master gardener, but I am curious, and I am giving a few things a go. I put in an order with Brown Envelope seeds, and have since sown 3 varieties of tomato (pictured) in late February, and an assortment (also pictured below) of other veg in early-mid March.

The potatoes are chitting and should probably be planted soon enough.

The rhubarb has required the least attention since cutting back in Autumn, and yet is (as a spirited DIY grower) the most flourishing plant in the garden.

Just after spring equinox, shoveling well-rotted goat manure to the garden beds for a boost of fertility before the seedlings are big enough to plant out, I notice the more-than-human world buzzing with activity. I am grateful to see that the red wiggler worms wriggling in the soil, Hooded crows flying with their twigs to build nests, the lone bumblebee here and there.

The sap’s rising and so am I, a bit earlier each morning, to see who and what are out and about each day of the growing light.
